Peter F. Alexander is a licensed landscape architect and land planner in Connecticut and New York with over 40 years of experience in the profession. He is highly qualified and knowledgeable in the industry and art of planning and has worked in 30 countries and 26 US states.
One of the wonderful things that motivated him to start our firm was a sailing trip to the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia, Canada. It sparked his passion for island sands and ocean recreation.
Peter respects and honors the Earth, which is evident in how he combines modern technology with traditional architectural methods. By taking this approach, he ensures that the future is bright for humanity, and any changes he makes through his work will keep our planet safe and healthy for centuries to come. GIS & Satellite Transmissions make it possible to evaluate and hold responsible actions.
One of Peter’s most notable accomplishments was his instrumental role in the passage of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), a statute under the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), focusing on waste management. The EPA’s slogan, “Today’s waste can be tomorrow’s gold,” is one that resonates deeply with Peter's philosophy.
Other highlights of Peter’s career include:
Founded in 1979, Alexander Affiliates has grown from a small, visionary practice into a globally recognized leader in sustainable landscape design. We recognize that our work, unlike fixed architectural elements, evolves with time and the changing seasons.
We plan and design with a commitment to the future, ensuring that our landscapes grow and mature over time. Whether working on existing sites—starting just one inch from the foundation—or on new developments, our process integrates design from the ground up, ensuring long-term sustainability and beauty. Our philosophy emphasizes that landscape architecture should be central to planning, not an afterthought.
We collaborate with private and public entities to create outdoor spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also sustainable and functional for community use.
Our expertise in land and property planning ensures that every development integrates seamlessly with its natural surroundings, supporting both ecological balance and human activity.
We work closely with government offices to design public spaces that promote environmental stewardship while addressing the community’s needs for recreation, conservation, and infrastructure.
Partnering with engineering firms, we provide comprehensive landscape architecture solutions that complement infrastructure projects, ensuring long-term environmental sustainability and project success.
Through collaboration with geographers and soil samplers, we ensure that our landscape designs are informed by thorough environmental assessments, promoting soil health and natural water flow.
The concept of the "town green" has deep historical roots, going back to the Puritans and Pilgrims who prioritized open spaces for community interaction. Today, as the U.S. grows to over 300 million people, town greens are harder to find, but the importance of shared community spaces remains. The show allows citizens to voice their thoughts on the past, present, and future of their environments.
Unlike traditional forums that can be bogged down by bureaucracy or biased by special interests, The Town Green Show offers an open platform. Listeners can participate freely, ask questions, and engage in true, unbiased dialogue about environmental information that affects them, their homes, and their communities.
The show covers a wide range of topics, from global environmental challenges to practical, on-the-ground solutions. Whether it's land-use rights, sustainability advice, or emerging technological advancements, the show provides valuable insights for everyone—from homeowners to government officials.
One of the most popular segments is the "Plant of the Week", where listeners are introduced to different plant species that can thrive in various landscapes. This segment offers practical tips for gardeners, landscapers, and anyone looking to enrich their local environment.
